The high flying Rey Mysterio did sign a new contract with WWE today – however, the dynamic luchadore was an arm’s length away from signing with AEW which would have seen Mysterio show up on their flagship show, Dynamite. Dave Meltzer recently posted on the F4WOnline.com forum in response to Rey’s new WWE deal, “That’s the deal from months back when he turned down AEW’s offer. Rey Mysterio discussed the Undertaker refusing to retire recently.
The future WWE Hall of Famer shared his thoughts on his newly penned WWE contract speaking to SI. He stated that he plans on wrestling professionally until he can not longer perform at a high-level.
“We never made the signing of my new deal public, but there is definitely going to be more time to see Rey Mysterio in WWE. I’m going to keep wrestling, at least until Father Time catches up and says, ‘It’s time to go.’”
Mysterio left WWE in 2015, working internationally in places such as Mexico and Japan. He credits being able to work with his son, Dominik in the Royal Rumble and with his son on a whole as a major componenet in re-signing with WWE. Rey Mysterio talked about his current status and reveals retirement plans last year.
“During that period, I was given time to think about what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I sat down with my wife and my kids, and we ultimately made the decision together that it was time for me to come back to WWE. I am thankful for that opportunity because I knew my son wanted to be part of this industry, and I wanted to reopen the door for Dominik to eventually get a foot in the business. WWE has treated me like I had never left, and I am so grateful and truly blessed for that. I’m under WWE’s wings once again, and they’ve seen such potential in Dominik and such a bright future for him.”
