Legendary Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone, who famously played the role of Rocky Balboa is a boxing fanatic. For his movies, he used to train with real fighters and it almost cost his life.

Sylvester Stallone opens up about the experience

During a sparring session with a boxing legend, he had a near-death experience. In 1982, when Earnie Shavers was going through the fading days of his career, he decided to try something else. This curiosity took him to the film industry. He became part of Rocky III, starring Stallone as Rocky Balboa.

One day, while sparring, Stallone asked Shavers to show his real power and hit him hard. Unfortunately, it did not go well as Stallone had expected. Shavers landed his left hand, which was not even his strongest.

After the horrible incident, Stallone said:

“That’s the closest I’ve ever come to death.” According to Jot Down, the punch was so heavy that it forced the actor to escort himself to the bathroom to throw up.

The former two-time heavyweight title challenger, who fought the likes of legendary boxers, Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes, recently passed away. He took his last breath earlier this month at the age of 78. The reason for his passing is not clear.

Meanwhile, Stallone recently split with Jennifer Flavin after 25 years of marriage. Jennifer previously posted pool photos with their daughter, as seen below, just before the divorce. It has come to light that a lot went into the latter’s decision to part ways. It really wasn’t just one issue that made her file for divorce,” PEOPLE reported. “They have had lots of issues for years and she just had enough.”

Stallone previously addressed reports that their breakup came after he got a Rottweiler, Dwight, and a disagreement over the canine triggered other arguments that led to the divorce filing.

Flavin filed for “dissolution of marriage and other relief” from the Rocky star at a court in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Friday.

Her filing included a claim that Stallone “has engaged in the intentional dissipation, depletion and/or waste of marital assets which has had an adverse economic impact on the marital estate.”

Flavin and Stallone share three daughters — Scarlet, 20, Sistine, 24, and Sophia, 25 — while the actor is also a father to son Seargeoh from his previous marriage to Sasha Czack. His oldest son Sage, whom he shares with Starlin Wright, died in 2012.
