Roman Reigns also successfully retained his WWE Universal Championship against Cesaro in the main event of WrestleMania Backlash. Roman Reigns was scheduled to defend his WWE Universal Championship against Rey Mysterio at the WWE Hell In A Cell pay-per-view. However, that match was shifted to another episode of Friday Night Smackdown.
Roman Reigns would successfully defend his WWE Universal Championship against Rey Mysterio on a previous episode of Friday Night Smackdown as well. He decimated Rey Mysterio and shattered his dreams of winning the title.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has a backup plan in case The Rock vs Roman Reigns does not happen at WrestleMania, and it could see The Rock square off against controversial WWE star Jimmy Uso in a tag match.
One idea that has been talked about, as the goal is Reigns and Rock in Dallas for the 2022 Mania, is that if concessions have to be made regarding Rock and movies and injury fears, that they do Reigns and an Uso vs. Rock and an Uso, so Rock can be protected from doing too much and it keeps it all in the family with the idea and Rock and Reigns as who is really the tribal chief. Obviously the singles match is the preferred match but any involvement of Rock is preferred over him not doing the show
